Introducing new services
Blackmill was born on the basis of continuously learning, improving, and sharing knowledge. Over the last year, we have enjoyed learning from, working with, and coaching people in technical teams. So we have been working on a few new offerings, which we would like to introduce today. You can now view details of our technical leadership coaching, culture and technical workshops, an Associate Developer onboarding program, and codebase reviews.
Technical leadership coaching
Our technical leadership coaching is aimed to help those in technical leadership roles to improve their leadership style, abilities, and attitudes. You could be a manager, a team lead, a product manager, designer or developer; even a CTO or VP. One-hour online sessions are delivered fortnightly over three months. For more information, please refer to our technical leadership coaching page.
Team culture and technical workshops
Our workshops are structured across multiple days with 2–3 hours per day, depending on the topic. Learning materials are pre-recorded, and distributed in advance so that you can digest it in your own time before attending the live sessions. This allows the group to dissect the learning materials, prepare questions, and consider solutions for discussion. It also gives us more time to focus on the conversations and activities we can do together.
The currently available workshops are: Leading engineering teams for new managers, Building inclusive teams, We are also offer technical workshops on topics such as: Advanced Git, Advanced Ruby and Rails, Refactoring in Ruby and Rails, and Test Driven Development (TDD) with RSpec.
For more information, please refer to our workshops page.
Developer onboarding program
This program helps tech companies to build a cost-effective recruiting pipeline to grow a diverse, loyal, and talented team of developers. We engage with the company and the new recruits to set goals and objectives for the engagement. Following that, we help onboard and train the Associate Developers for the following three months. For more information, please refer to our Developer onboarding program page.
Rails codebase reviews
As software codebases constantly grow and evolve, codebase reviews should be performed periodically to evaluate the current state of the application codebase, and to assist in dealing with technical debt. We perform a thorough analysis and review of your Rails codebase. We then provide you with a written report with a review of findings and recommendations, actionable advice, and suggested advice on how to move forward. For more information, please refer to our Rails codebase reviews page.
We pride ourselves on being personable, and on delivering high quality services that have long-term positive impacts and results to individuals and organisations. Please contact us if you have any questions, feedback, or even for a chat over coffee.
